โ FAQ โ
Common questions
Is this a clinical diagnosis?
No. This is a self-reflection tool inspired by adult attachment research (Hazan & Shaver, 1987; Brennan et al., 1998 ECR Scale). It does not diagnose any clinical condition. If you're struggling, please talk to a licensed therapist.
Is it really free?
Yes โ 100% free, no signup, no email. ~2 minutes total.
What are the 4 styles, exactly?
Secure (~50โ55% of US adults), Anxious (~15โ20%), Avoidant (~20โ25%), Disorganized (~5โ10%). Percentages from Mickelson, Kessler, & Shaver (1997).
Can my style change?
Yes. Research suggests attachment styles can shift with consistent supportive partners or therapy. Earned secure attachment is real. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is one well-known modality based on attachment theory.
Is this the official ECR Scale?
No. The Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR) Scale by Brennan, Clark, & Shaver (1998) is a 36-item academic instrument. Our 12-question test is inspired by ECR but is a simplified self-reflection tool, not the validated scale itself.
Should I share my result with my partner?
Many couples use it as a conversation starter โ not a diagnosis. The book Attached by Amir Levine is a popular resource for couples navigating this together.
